The word ‘mundane’ refers to Earth. Hence, Mundane Astrology focuses mainly on the
future of the different countries existing on the earth. Mundane Astrology is a branch
of astrology that examines the charts of the countries and their rulers in predicting
the future of the country. It covers objectives and goals of nations, their wealth,
political stability, financial position, development, global relationships, natuaral
cal;amities, public health, infrastructure development, national incomes, spiritual
pursuits followed by its people, etc. Mundane Astrology is also called ‘Medhini
Jyotisha’ or ‘Desa Gochara’ in vedic culture. It is also referred to as ‘Political Astrology’
by mordern astrologers.
There are references to Mundane Astrology in Ramayana. So its existance can be tracked back to several lakhs of years. Varahamihira gives a vivid description of Mundane Astrology in his great work ‘Brihatsamhita’. Western astrologers like Ptolemy, Sepharial, Alan Leo and Raphael had made tremendous effort on this subject.
Unlike natal astrology which focuses on the individual horoscope of a person, Mundane Astrology mainly focuses on the future of a country. The affairs of a nation can be judged from the horoscope set up at the time of its official inauguration, the birth chart of its leader, and various phenomemena such as eclipses, lunations, great conjunctions, stations, comets and ingresses.
